Prasat Neak Pean |
end of 12th century, Jayavarman VII
Buddhist
The entwined haga. Built as an island,
350 meters square, at the center of the Baray of Preah Khan, at the center of which a
large square basin has at its center a circular base, ringed with two entwined nagas
(serpents), supporting the central sanctuary. Four smaller square basins at each side are
connected by gargoyles with discharge into small sanctuaries in a form which replicates
the sacred lake of Anavatapta in the Himalaya, venerated for its powers of healing.
